Jefferson having a snooze February 2008 - nearly 11 years old Jefferson loves relaxing on our Buddha bag in the sun, he's a handsome boy! With Jefferson and Amber being hand reared they really wanted our company all the time. Amber kind of claimed Dave as "her human" and Jefferson went for me. He really is my boy. We have a very special bond which can't be described. I can look at him and know what he's thinking. He always comes to me when called and doesn't like sharing my knee with any of the other cats.
He is a lovely black and white colour almost the image of Felix the cartoon cat from the TV adverts. Again he has a wonderful temperament. His downfall though has to be his food. He loves it so much. All our cats have a dried food diet. When we first had all our cats they were on wet food. Then we switched them onto dry food. The boys developed crystals in their urine and had to go on special diets. Jasper used to have the Eukanuba Oxyalate diet and Jefferson has the Hills CD diet. The other cats have James Wellbeloved dried food which is great. They all get fed twice a day, morning and evening. However when we first had cats we just used to leave food out all day but Jefferson would eat it all. Before the age of 1 year he weighed over a stone. Now granted he is a big cat, big build but that was too heavy and we successfully got him onto the IAM's light diet and got him down to his right size. We can highly recommend the light diets for reducing a cats weight. Later on he developed crystals and now has to stick to a special diet. Summer 2005, looking so cute I guess in a way it doesn't help that he likes beer. Oh yes it has to be Stella Artois! One evening we were sat watching a film, Dave decided to have a beer and Jefferson thought "Mmmm that smells good". Dave joked and said "Here try it and then you might leave me alone but you won't like it". Well Jefferson started licking the bottle and loved it! That was the worse thing Dave could have done as every time he went to the fridge Jefferson would know the sound of beer bottles clicking together and would appear in an instant. Friends would visit and thought it was so cool that we had a cat that loved beer! Seriously though, although it was funny to watch him going mad, we never let him have a lot to drink. Just the odd drops from the bottom of the bottle. I told our vet and he said that some cats like the malt smell. He also said the odd drops would not do him harm. The picture below is a classic, Jefferson drinking out of a bottle of Stella. Dave was so upset that he couldn't have a beer in peace anymore that I sent the picture and a poem off and we got some vouchers back in the post for free Stella. Hence Dave and his drinking buddy were chuffed!!!!!
"Our cat Jefferson's one hell of a fella Likes nothing more than a bottle of Stella, He then loves to sit in front of the telly Flashing us all his big beer belly!" Out of all our cats he is the one who enjoys going out the most. He is the only one who has ever managed to catch anything and bring them home for us as presents. Dead birds aren't so bad, easy to clear up and throw away. However when it is alive that is a different matter and we will never forget the times he brought real birds home. We think he had more fun sitting there watching us chase a bird round the house along with the 3 other cats who thought it highly amusing! He loves to have his picture taken as you can tell by the way he sits or lies and poses. He is a bit of a super star too - he has appeared in "Your Cat" magazine - July 2001 issue, and he has his picture on Felix the cats website in the "rogues gallery"! He is a wonderful cat, our "Boy". |
